Uncertainty

That which is unknown or vague.

When goods have been stolen from some person unknown, they may be so described in the indictment; but if the owner be really known, an indictment alleging the property to belong to some person unknown is improper.

Umpire
A person selected by two or more arbitrators. When they are authorize to do so by the submission of the parties, and they cannot agree as to the subject-matter referred to them, whose duty it is to decide the matter in dispute. Sometimes the term is applied to a single arbitrator, selected by the parties themselves.

Uncitral
The United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) was established by a United Nations General Assembly Resolution in 1966. The aim of UNCITRAL is to harmonize and unify international trade law. It was instrumental in the preparation of the Hamburg Rules, 1978.

Uncitral model law
The "UNCITRAL. Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration" was adopted June 21, 1985.

Unconditional
That which is without condition; that which must be performed without regard to what has happened or may happen.

Unconditional contract
Contracts. One which does not depend upon any condition whatever.

Unconditional heir
A term used in the civil law, adopted by the Civil Code of Louisiana. Unconditional heirs are those who inherit without any reservation, or without making an inventory, whether their acceptance be express or tacit.
