TributeA contribution which is sometimes raised by the sovereign from his subject, to sustain the expenses of the state. It is also a sum of money paid by one nation to another under some pretended right.

Contribution
Civil law. A partition by which the creditors of an insolvent debtor divide, among themselves the proceeds of his property, proportionably to the amount of their respective credits.
Sovereign
1) A chief ruler with supreme power; one possessing sovereignty. It is also applied to a king or other magistrate with limited powers. 2) English law. The name of a gold coin of Great Britain of the value of one pound sterling.
Subject
1) Contracts. The thing which is the object of an agreement. This term is used in the laws of Scotland. 2) Persons, government. An individual member of a nation, who is subject to the laws; this term is used in contradistiction to citizen, which is applied to the same individual when considering his political rights.

1) Government. In its most enlarged sense, it signifies a self-sufficient body of persons united together in one community for the defence of their rights, and to do right and justice to foreigners. In this sense, the state means the whole people united into one body politic; and the state, and the people of the state, are equivalent expressions. 2) Condition of persons. This word has various acceptations. If we inquire into its origin, it will be found to come from the Latin status, which is derived from the verb stare, sto, whence has been made statio, which signifies the place where a person is located, stat, to fulfil the obligations which are imposed upon him.
Money
Gold, silver, and some other less precious metals, in the progress of civilization and commerce, have become the common standards of value; in order to avoid the delay and inconvenience of regulating their weight and quality whenever passed, the governments of the civilized world have caused them to be manufactured in certain portions, and marked with a Stamp which attests their value; this is called money.
Nation
A group or race of people that share history, traditions and culture. The United Kingdom is comprised of four nations or national groups: the English, Scots, Irish and Welsh. Canada includes French-Canadians, English-Canadians and a number of aboriginal nations. Thus, states may be comprised of one or several nations. It is common English to use the word "nation" when referring to what is known in law as "states."
Right
1) Sometimes it signifies a law, as when we say that natural right requires us to keep our promises, or that it commands restitution, or that it forbids murder. In our language it is seldom used in this sense. 2) It sometimes means that quality in our actions by which they are denominated just ones. This is usually denominated rectitude. 3) It is that quality in a person by which he can do certain actions, or possess certain things which belong to him by virtue of some title. In this sense, we use it when we say that a man has a right to his estate or a right to defend himself.

Trinity house
The Corporation of Trinity House, established as a guild of mariners by King Henry VIII of England in 1517, in the Parish of Deptford Strond, in the County of Kent (now near the Tower of London). The Trinity House has been responsible, since the time of Queen Elizabeth I, for the erection and maintenance of lighthouses, lightships and buoys in English waters. It is also the authority for the licensing of pilots. The "Elder Brethren" of Trinity House (retired sea captains, also known as "Trinity Masters") serve as nautical assessors to the High Court, Admiralty Division.
