Time limitationsA common law term (also known as "time-bars") referring to periods of time, prescribed by statutes ("statutes of limitation") or international conventions, the expiry of which results in the loss of the right to sue to enforce a claim or right. Although the common law traditionally viewed most time limitations as procedural and therefore subject to the lex fori (supra), they are increasingly understood as substantive, and thus governed by the law applicable to the underlying contract or tort.
