Querela

An action preferred in any court of justice, in which the plaintiff was called querens or complainant, and his brief, complaint, or declaration, was called querela.

Action
1) French commercial. Stock in a company, shares in a corporation. 2)Civil law. An action instituted to avoid a sale onaccount of some Vice or defect in the thing sold which readers it either absolutely useless, or its use so inconvenient and, imperfect, that it must be, supposed the buyer would not have purchased it, had he known of the vice.

Brief
Ecclesiastical law. The name of a kind of papal rescript. Briefs are writings sealed with wax, and differ in this respect from bulls, which are scaled with lead.

Complaint
Criminal law. The allegation made to a proper officer, that some person, whether known or unknown, has been guilty of a designated offence, with an offer to prove the fact, and a request that the offender may be punished.

A point on which the parties are not agreed, and which is submitted to the decision of a judge and jury.

Questor or quaestor. Civil law. A name which was given to two distinct classes of Roman officers. One of which was called quaestores classici, and the other quaestores parricidii.
