Prisoner of war

One who has been captured while fighting under the banner of some state. He is a prisoner, although never coufined in a prison.

1) Government. In its most enlarged sense, it signifies a self-sufficient body of persons united together in one community for the defence of their rights, and to do right and justice to foreigners. In this sense, the state means the whole people united into one body politic; and the state, and the people of the state, are equivalent expressions. 2) Condition of persons. The law allows the government to seek reimbursement if a prisoner has enough money to recover 10% of the estimated cost of care or 10% of the estimated cost for two years, whichever is less. Not more than 90% of the assets can be secured. Assets include payments from worker?s compensation, veteran?s compensation, previously earned salary or wages, bonuses, annuities, and retirement benefits. Money saved from wages and bonuses earned while in prison cannot be taken, according to the law.
