Principal contract

Principal contractOne entered into by both parties, on their own accounts, or in the several qualities they assume. It differs from an accessory contract.

Contracts. Those persons who engage themselves to do, or not to do the matters and things contained in an agreement.

Certain terms, such as the obligations to be performed and the terms for setting price or compensation must be mutually understood, known in legal lingo as a "meeting of the minds," and promised to by the parties to form a legal contract.

The process, argued Cavers, would eventually result in the development of criteria for assessing the competing social values advanced by competing rules, so that the preferable rule could be identified. Ultimately, these criteria came to be known as Cavers' "principles of preference."
