NotesPractice. Short statements of what transpires on the trial of a cause; they are generally made by the judge and the counsel, for their Own satisfaction RELATED TERMS-------------------------------------- Practice The form, manner and order of conducting and carrying on suits or prosecutions in the courts through their various stages, according, to the principles of law, and the rules laid down by the respective courts. Trial Practice., The examination before a competent tribunal, according to the laws, of the land, of the facts put in issue in a cause, for the purpose of determining such issue. Cause 1) Civil law. It signifies the delivery of the thing, or the accomplishment of the act which is the object of a convention. 2) It is the consideration or motive for making a contract. 3) Pleading. The reason; the motive. 4) Practice. A contested question before a court of justice; it is a Suit or action. Judge An elected or appointed public official with authority to hear and decide cases in a court of law. Counsel 1) Advice given to another as to what he ought to do or not to do. 2) An officer of court. One who undertakes to conduct suits and actions in court. The same as counsellor. 3) Practice, Criminal law. In the oath of the grand jurors, there is a provision requiring them to keep secret " the commonwealth's counsel, their fellows, and their own." In this sense this word is synonymous with knowledge. Satisfaction 1) Practice. An entry made on the record, by which a party in whose favor a judgment was rendered, declares that he has been satisfied and paid. 2) Construction by courts of equity. Satisfaction is defined to be the donation of a thing, with the intention, express or implied, that such donation is to be an extinguishment of some existing right or claim in the donee. The fourth part of a fine of lands: it is an abstract of the writ of covenant and concord, and is only a, doequet taken by the chirographer, from which he draws up the indenture. It is sometimes taken in the old books for the concord. Note of hand Contracts. Another name, less technical, for a promissory note. Notice to creditors A notice given by the bankruptcy court to all creditors of a meeting of creditors. Notice to quit A request from a landlord to his tenant, to quit the premises lessed, and to give possession of the same to him, the landlord, at a time therein men- tioned.
