GentlewomanThis word is unknown to the law in the United States, and is but little used. In England. it was, formerly, a good addition of the state or degree of a woman.

In angular measures, a degree is equal to sixty minutes, or the thirtieth part of a sine. 3) persons. By degree, is understood the state or condition of a person.
