FiguresNumerals. It is considered better to date formal instruments by writing the day and the year in words; and to write in words in the body of a bill, note, or receipt the sum for which it is given.

Date
Latin datum, a thing given. The primary signification is time "given" or specified, - in some way ascertained and fixed. In the ancient form the clause ran: datum apud, etc., specifying the place and time; thence called the datum clause, afterward shortened to "date".
Writing
The act of forming by the hand letters or characters of a particular kind on paper or other suitable substance, and artfully putting them together so as to co nvey ideas. It differs from printing, which is the formation of words on paper or other proper substance by means of a stamp. Sometimes by writing ii understood printing, and sometimes printing and writing mixed.

Bill
1) Legislation. An instrument drawn or presented by a member or committee to a legislative body for its approbation and enactment. After it has gone through both houses and received the constitutional sanction of the chief magistrate, where such approbation is requisite, it becomes a law. 2) Merchant law. An account containing the items of goods sold, or of work done by one person against another. 3) Contracts. A bill or obligation, is a deed whereby the obligor acknowledges himself to owe unto the obligee a certain sum of money or some other thing, in which, besides the names of the parties, are to be considered the sum or thing due, the time, place, and manner of payment or delivery thereof. It may be indented, or poll, and with or without a penalty.

Estates, convention, practice. The fourth part of a fine of lands: it is an abstract of the writ of covenant and concord, and is only a, doequet taken by the chirographer, from which he draws up the indenture. It is sometimes taken in the old books for the concord.
Receipt
Contracts. A receipt is an acknowledgment in writing that the party giving the same has received from the person therein named, the money or other thing therein specified.

Fieri facias
A writ of fieri facias commands a sheriff to take and sell enough property from the person who lost the law suit, to pay the debt owed by the judgment.
Fieri feci
Practice. The return which the sheriff, or other proper officer, makes to certain writs, signifying, "I have caused to be made."
Fifteenth
English law. The name of a tax levied by authority of parliament for the use of the king, which consisted of one-fifteenth part of the goods of those who are subject to it.
Fifth amendment
Among other rights, the Fifth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution guarantees that a person cannot be compelled to present self-incriminating testimony in a criminal proceeding.
