Dollar

Money. A silver coin of the United States of the value of one hundred cents, or tenth part of an eagle.

Money
Gold, silver, and some other less precious metals, in the progress of civilization and commerce, have become the common standards of value; in order to avoid the delay and inconvenience of regulating their weight and quality whenever passed, the governments of the civilized world have caused them to be manufactured in certain portions, and marked with a Stamp which attests their value; this is called money.

Coin
Commerce, contracts. A piece of gold, silver or other metal stamped by authority of the government, in order to determine its value, commonly called money.

By this name are understood in some countries, the assembly of the different orders of the people to regulate the affairs of the commonwealth, as, the states general.

Value
Common law. This term has two different meanings. It sometimes expresses the utility of an object, and some times the power of purchasing other good with it. The first may be called value in use, the latter value in exchange.

Hundred
English law. A district of country originally comprehending one hundred families. In many cases, when an offence is committed within the -hundred, the inhabitants tire civilly responsible to the party injured.

Eagle
Money. A gold coin of the United States, of the value of ten dollars. It weighs two hundred and fifty-eight grains. Of one thousand parts, nine hundred are of pure gold, and one hundred of all.

National domain. A French civil law term referring to all property and rights, moveable and immoveable, belonging to the French State, including both property forming part of the "domaine prive" and property forming part of the "domaine public" of the State.

Domaine prive
A French civil law term referring to all property of the French State which is capable of being owned, including vessels. Such property is unseizable, may be used only for its stated purpose, may never be exchanged or leased for another person's use and must be sold when it can no longer be used for the stipulated service or use.

Domaine public
Public domain. A French civil law term referring to all property of the French State which is incapable of ownership by virtue of its nature or the purpose for which the property is destined. Such property is unseizable, inalienable and imprescriptible.
