DismesAnother name for tithes. Dime, a piece of federal money, is sometimes improperly written disme. A right to the tenth part of the produce of, lands, the stocks upon lands, and the personal industry of the inhabitants. These tithes are raised for the support of the clergy. Dime Money. A silver coin of the United States, of the value of one-tenth part of a dollar or ten cents. Federal Government. This term is commonly used to express a league or compact between two or more states. Money Gold, silver, and some other less precious metals, in the progress of civilization and commerce, have become the common standards of value; in order to avoid the delay and inconvenience of regulating their weight and quality whenever passed, the governments of the civilized world have caused them to be manufactured in certain portions, and marked with a Stamp which attests their value; this is called money.
