Church-warden

An officer whose duties are, as the name implies, to take care of, or guard the church.

Duties
In its most enlarged sense, this word is nearly equivalent to taxes, embracing all impositions or charges levied on persons or things; in its more restrained sense, it is often used as equivalent to customs or imposts.

When a right of property depends on a civil court question, and that question has been decided by the highest tribunal within the religious organization to which it has been carried, the civil courts accept that decision as final.
