Chevisance

Contracts, torts. This is a French word, which signifies in that language, accord, agreement, compact. In the English statutes it is used to denote a bargain or contract in general.

Word
Construction. One or more syllables which when united convey an idea a single part of speech.

Accord
A satisfaction agreed upon between the parties in a lawsuit which bars subsequent actions on the claim.

Agreement
A verbal or written resolution of disputes.

Compact
Contracts. In its more general sense, it signifies an agreement. In its strict sense, it imports a contract between parties, which creates obligations and rights capable of being enforeed, and contemplated as such between the parties, in their distinct and independent characters.

Contract
A negotiated oral or written agreement setting forth the terms for an exchange of value between parties (which may be individuals or companies) and under which each party promises to perform an obligation. Certain terms, such as the obligations to be performed and the terms for setting price or compensation must be mutually understood, known in legal lingo as a "meeting of the minds," and promised to by the parties to form a legal contract.

General
1) A principal officer, particularly in the army. 2) Something opposed to special; as, a general verdict, the general issue, which expressions are used in contradistinction to special verdict, special issue. 3) Principal, as the general post office. 4) Not select, as a general ship. 5) Not particular, as a general custom. 5) Not limited, as general jurisdiction. 7) This word is sometimes annexed or prefixed to other words to express or limit the extent of their signification; as Attorney General, Solicitor General, the General Assembly.

Cheat
French escheat: from fraud used by lords of manors to procure escheats. Cheats which are punishable at common law may be described to be deceitful practices in defrauding or endeavoring to defraud another of his known rights by means of some artful devices, contrary to the plain rules of common honesty. Hawkins, Pl. Cr., b. 1, c. 23, § 1. A cheat or fraud, indictable at common law, must be such as would affect the public, such as common prudence cannot guard against; as, using false weights and measures, or false tokens, or where there is a conspiracy to cheat.
