Contracts. Said to be merchandise which is neither counted, weighed, nor measured.

By this term is understood all those things which merchants sell either wholesale or retail, as dry goods, hardware, groceries, drugs, &c. It is usually applied to personal chattels only, and to those which are not required for food or immediate support, but such as remain after having been used or which are used only by a slow consumption.

Brussels convention 1968
The Convention on Jurisdiction and the Enforcement of Judgments in Civil and Commercial Matters, adopted at Brussels on September 27, 1968 and in force as of February 1, 1973. This Convention provides uniform rules on jurisdiction and the recognition and enforcement of judgments for all States of the European Union (infra).

Bubble act
English law. The name given to the statute, which was passed in 1719, and was intended " for restraining several extravagant and unwarrantable practices therein mentioned."

Bucket shop
A securities fraud scheme that pretends to buy and sell securities for customers, but actually never invests the money it receives. The scheme depends upon stock price manipulation or a continuously rising market to encourage more buyers than sellers. Also associated sometimes with the Pump-and-Dump scheme.

Criminal law. The detestable crime of having commerce contrary to the order of nature, by mankind with mankind, or with brute beasts, or by womankind with brute beasts.

The International Convention on Civil Liability for Bunker Oil Pollution Damage, adopted at London on March 23, 2001, not yet in force.

A piece of wood, or an empty barrel, floating on the water, to show the place where it is shallow, to indicate the danger there is to navigation.

Burden of proof
This phrase is employed to signify the duty of proving the facts in dispute on an issue raised between the parties in a cause.
