Berne convention
Berne conventionAn international copyright treaty called the Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works signed at Berne, Switzerland in 1886 (amended several times and as late as 1971) and to which now subscribe 77 nations including all major trading countries including China, with the notable exception of Russia. It is based on the principle of national treatment. RELATED TERMS-------------------------------------- International That which pertains to intercourse between nations. Copyright Copyright is governed by the Copyright, Designs and Patent Act 1988 and is intended to protect against others copying and exploiting the form in which a copyright exists (a "work"). The copyright, whether it be in a literary, dramatic, musical and artistic work or mechanical rights (sound recordings, film etc.) is generally owned by the author unless he assigns the rights to another.
