Amend
AmendTo change, to revise, usually to the wording of a written document such as legislation. RELATED TERMS-------------------------------------- Change The exchange of money for money. Legislation Written and approved laws. Also known as "statutes" or "acts." In constitutional law, one would talk of the "power to legislate" or the "legislative arm of government" referring to the power of political bodies (eg: house of assembly, Congress, Parliament) to write the laws of the land. SIMILAR TERMS-------------------------------------- PREVIOUS AND NEXT TERMS-------------------------------------- Alternative dispute resolution Also known as "ADR"; methods by which legal conflicts and disputes are resolved privately and other than through litigation in the public courts, usually through one of two forms: mediation or arbitration. It typically involves a process much less formal than the traditional court process and includes the appointment of a third-party to preside over a hearing between the parties. The advantages of ADR are speed and money: it costs less and is quicker than court litigation. ADR forums are also private. The disadvantage is that it often involves compromise. Alternative legacy One where the testator gives one of two things to the legatee without designating which of them; as, one of my two horses. Amalgamation The merging of two things together to form one such as the amalgamation of different companies to form a single company. Ambassador A citizen that has been officially asked by their country to live in another country in order to legally represent it. For example, the USA has sent ambassadors to live, and represent the USA, in almost all other countries. Ambulatory Something which is not cast in stone; which can be changed or revoked, such as a will. Amend Amerasian (Vietnam) Immigrant visas are issued to Amerasians under Public Law, which provides for the admission of aliens born in Vietnam after January 1, 1962, and before January 1, 1976, if the alien was fathered by a U.S. citizen. Spouses, children, and parents or guardians may accompany the alien. Amerasian act Public Law provides for the immigration to the United States of certain Amerasian children. In order to qualify for benefits under this law, an alien must have been born in Cambodia, Korea, Laos, Thailand, or Vietnam after December 31, 1950, and before October 22, 1982, and have been fathered by a U.S. citizen. American bar association A national association of lawyers whose primary purpose is improvement of lawyers and the administration of justice. American conflicts revolution A period of considerable original legal thought beginning about 1930, when the theory of U.S. private international law changed dramatically, affecting legal theory both within and outside of the United States.
